Sometimes -- actually, a lot of the time -- I feel as though Mary-Kate is extremely overrated. I honestly love the girl, but so does the rest of the world. And in all honesty, you can't help it! She's a great petite girl with a bold sense of fashion who deserves a ton of respect. Unlike most Hollywood scarlets, she hasn't ended up in rehab yet.
Another fact: I'm not a crazed Elle fan either -- the content, though, is fairly decent and I don't mind skimming through once a while.
Here's a little reinforcement that sometimes, what you least expect is hiding right under your nose:

When I was in the US I found that Elle US was surprisingly very good. Besides the fact that in each issue there must be one column about plastic surgery/anti aging somewhere, it is acceptable considering the fact it is aiming at successful 30+, though.
So I like Elle US and I like MK Olsen, however, this little editorial could have been better imho.

Mary-Kate is always looking great, she must get credit for her individuality. And you are right - Elle is good to have a glimpse at every so often - it's like an easy-goin version of the more hardcore Vogue and Bazaar.
I love her. She seems very driven, and I like that her and her sister actually work for a living! And she's right, I often wonder about the gap between the media's perception of what's fashionable, and the fashion world's perception of the same items...
the beginning of her quote is so true! she will get placed on a worst dressed list for doing something first and usually the trend that the media hated on becomes one that all girls covet!
i def like ashleys style better but i appreciate mary kates ability to take chances with her fashion sense. i must say appreciation goes an extremely long way in this case.

My favourite twin is Ashley. But I admit, MK is more daring with her fashion choices.
I adore and admire MK's fashion choices. She always makes a statement whether she ends up on the best or the worst dressed list. I love that she just doesn't care what other people think and dresses for herself.
MK is totally right.... the mainstream America hates her thinks she's weird and yet... she is a trend setter and the fashion world loves her... go figure?!?!
I love MK Olsen she's always so true to herself and I like that. I wish I could be that way.

love her no matter what the media diss about her and the PETA whining about. she's the real deal. She doesnt need a stylist to dress up who she really is. tons of respect :)
I used to hate how short I was. But Mary-Kate and Ashley have been a good inspiration, that short girls can wear high fashion too. I absolutly love their style.
i WANT that studded vest she's wearing. it really is a pretty editorial, it is all very MK thoug. she's wearing outfits that look very "her" though.

i enjoy everything that mk comes up with fashion wise, i think she's a real creative gal, but in terms of emulation and inspiration i choose ashley always, as i prefer a more pared-down look
